"Building better voters and active citizens, one student at a time"

Parsley students learned about the democratic process and then on 'Election Day', Oct. 28, each student was given the hands-on experience of casting a mock ballot during the school day.

Kids Voting North Carolina is a private, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that promotes voter participation by educating America’s youth about the importance of being an informed citizen and the responsibilities of voting to sustain democracy.

In preparation, students in the upper grades made campaign pins in art class.

Students in Mrs. Nicholas' kindergarten read a story about running for president and then did a K-W-L chart for things they knew about the election. Then they had a practice vote in the classroom for president.

On 'election day' in the multipurpose room, students' participation was checked off and then they were given a ballot and instructions.

The ballot listed candidates by name and by photo.

When done, students got an “I Voted” sticker
and then turned in their ballot.
