blue bullet  Story Starters from Scholastic - Select a grade level (k-6) and then spin the wheel to get a variety of fun story starter ideas. If desired, you can then choose a format (notebook, letter, newspaper, or postcard) and type your story on this web 2.0 tool.  There is even a drawing tool to add an illustration. Print when you are done.
red bullet  TeachingBooks.net - Search for access to authors and illustrators
blue bullet  Telescopic Text - This website starts out with the sentence, "I made tea.  Clicking on each word in the sentence expands the sentence adding adjective, adverbs and other words that make the sentence more interesting.  Keep clicking and the simple sentence becomes a descriptive paragraph.  This would be best used for whole group instruction using an interactive whiteboard.

red bullet  Wacky Web Tales - Students input parts of speech to create these wacky tales

red bullet Word Central - besides being an easy-to-use online dictionary, you can also use this resource as a thesaurus and rhyming dictionary
blue bullet  Writing Topics - Lists of suggested topics by grade level
