NHC Board of Education Member Lisa Estep Appointed
to the NC Board of Community Colleges by Governor Pat McCrory

NHCS Board of Education Member, Lisa EstepNew Hanover County Board of Education Member Lisa Estep has been appointed to the North Carolina Board of Community Colleges by Governor Pat McCrory. Mrs. Estep joins five others, including Dr. Breeden Blackwell of Fayetteville, Bill McBrayer of Hickory, Clark Twiddy of the Outer Banks, James Rose of Raleigh and Todd Johnson of Monroe, as new members of the board. The new members will attend meetings July 16-17, 2015, with the official swearing in at the regular meeting of the Board at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the Caswell Building, 200 W. Jones Street, Raleigh. Governor McCrory is scheduled to be in attendance.

As a member of the New Hanover County Board of Education and a Wilmington resident, Mrs. Estep understands the role community colleges play in the Wilmington area. Mrs. Estep is playing an integral role in the Board’s partnership with Cape Fear Community College to help bring a Career and Technical Education (CTE) high school to New Hanover County. In a society that’s growing in technology and as a parent of five children, two of whom have attended CFCC, Mrs. Estep plans to utilize her role as a state board member to bring awareness to students’ web-based learning needs. When asked about her role as State Board member, she stated that she understands the valuable and economical educational opportunities provided by community colleges.

Mrs. Estep graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Accounting. She is married to Hank Estep, a partner in Griffin Estep, an independent full-service insurance brokerage and consulting firm.
