New Hanover County Board of Education Announces New Principal
Appointments
The New Hanover County Board of Education approved two new
appointments for the 2012-2013 school year.
Mr. Samuel Highsmith has been appointed principal at Myrtle
Grove Middle School for the new school year.Mr. Highsmith was
most recently an assistant principal at Myrtle Grove.
Previously, he was an assistant principal at Eaton Elementary
School and Ashley High School. Also, he taught Social Studies
and was the Men’s Basketball Coach and Varsity Cheerleading
Coach at John T. Hoggard High School. Mr. Highsmith also served
as an assistant principal at South Brunswick High School.
Mr. Highsmith received a Bachelor of Science degree in
Industrial Relations from University of North Carolina-Chapel
Hill. He received North Carolina Teacher Certification in
Secondary Social Studies and a Master’s degree in School
Administration from University of North Carolina-Wilmington.
Mr. Eric Pfirman has been appointed interim principal at Hoggard
High School for the new school year until a permanent principal
is determined. He has served as an assistant principal at
Hoggard for the last six years. Prior to his employment with New
Hanover County Schools, Mr. Pfirman taught Social Studies at
Statesville High School with Iredell-Statesville Schools.
Mr. Pfirman received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from
Lycoming College in Williamsport, P.A. and a Master’s degree in
School Administration from University of North
Carolina-Wilmington.
