Our Physical Therapy Department is staffed with trained and experienced physical therapists.  Physical therapy is a service provided by a licensed physical therapist and is concerned with prevention of physical disabilities and with providing rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities.  These services are designed to develop or restore neuromuscular and/or sensorimotor functions, control postural deviations to minimize disabilities, and to develop and maintain maximal performance levels within the individual's physical capabilities.  In an educational setting, physical therapy services are provided to enable an identified student to benefit from special education in the least restrictive environment.

Services provided to children within the school system may include direct treatment to help a child achieve Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) goals or remain comfortable throughout the school day, developing and maintaining an individual's physical potential for independence and safety in educationally related activities, modifying and adapting the physical environment so that the student may benefit from special education, and providing in-service for school personnel or parents.  Accessibility studies are performed to help remove architectural barriers within the school setting.  Evaluation of equipment needs for comfort, function, and meeting of IEP goals is a regular part of the physical therapist's duties.

All physical therapists are typically out in the schools throughout the week but do regularly convene for information sharing and to review caseloads, special needs, and collaborative services.
