New Hanover County Board of Education Approves Administrative Changes

 
 
The New Hanover County Board of Education approved the following administrator and administrative changes for the 2020-2021 school year at their Interim Meeting on June 16, 2020:
 
Mark Clawson has been named Director of Transportation. Previously Mr. Clawson served as the Transportation Information Management System (TIMS) Coordinator with New Hanover County Schools. Additionally, he was a NHCS Bus Driver for over two years. Mr. Clawson received a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University and a Master’s Degree in Marketing and Finance from Oakland University in Michigan.
 
Ashley Sutton has been named Executive Director of Finance. Mrs. Sutton previously served as the Chief Officer for School Finance with Duplin County Schools.  Before relocating to Duplin County Schools, Mrs. Sutton was the Director of Finance, the Assistant Director of Finance, and the Budget Analyst with New Hanover County Schools. Mrs. Sutton received a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a Master’s Degree in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
 
Jordan Steinhilber has been named principal of Howe Pre-K Center. Mrs. Steinhilber has previously served as the Assistant Principal of Murrayville Elementary and Bradley Creek Elementary School. She taught kindergarten, first, second and third grade at Blair Elementary School. Ms. Steinhilber received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and School Administration from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Ms. Steinhilber’s administrative contract is effective until June 30, 2022.  
 
Deborah Stout will remain the principal at Lake Forest Academy. Previously Mrs. Stout served as the Supervisor Principal of Lake Forest Academy and the Lead Liaison and Lead Teacher in Special Education. Additionally, she served as a Special Education Teacher with New Hanover County Schools. Ms. Stout received a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education with a concentration in Behavioral Psychology and a Master’s Degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.Ms. Stout’s administrative contract is effective until June 30, 2022.
 
Christianne May has been named Principal of Castle Hayle Elementary. Ms. May previously served as the Principal of Howe Pre-K Center.  Before coming to New Hanover County Schools, she served as the Assistant Principal of Mount Holly Middle School with Gaston County Schools and as the Literacy Facilitator, RTL Intervention Team Facilitator, and a second, third, fourth and fifth-grade Teacher with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Ms. May received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from York College of Pennsylvania and a Master’s of Educational Instruction/Curriculum Supervision from the University of North Carolina Charlotte and a Master’s of School Administration from the Appalachian State University. Ms. May’s contract will be effective until June 30, 2024.
 
Steven Moore has been named Principal of Holly Tree Elementary School. Mr. Moore previously served as Principal of Oakview Elementary School with Wake County Schools. Mr. Moore has additionally served as a Principal at Fuquay-Varina Elementary School and Assistant Principal in Timber Drive Elementary School. Mr. Moore has served as an Instructional Resource Teacher, Technology Resource Teacher and a 5th Grade Teacher. Mr. Moore received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and a Master’s Degree in School Administration from North Carolina State University. Mr. Moore’s administrative contract is effective until June 30, 2022.
 
Dewey (Chris) Furr will serve as Interim Principal for Williston Middle School through September 11, 2020.  Mr. Furr retired as the Principal of New Hanover High School in 2011.  He has served New Hanover County Schools in many capacities.
 
Carole Piner will serve as the Interim Principal at Codington Elementary School until a permanent full-time employee is hired for the position or October 11, 2020. Ms. Piner retired as the Principal of Anderson Elementary School in 2016.  She has served New Hanover County Schools in many capacities.
