Cropper GIS Consulting will manage the redistricting process for elementary and middle schools to realign school attendance zones for New Hanover County Schools. Mathew Cropper will make a presentation at the Board of Education meeting on July 9, 2019, providing an overview of the redistricting process and timeline. The Redistricting Committee will meet for the first time on July 10th.
The Redistricting Committee will host a public forum in September 2019. The public will have the opportunity to follow the redistricting process and provide input at all times through a special webpage, www.nhcsredistricting.com. The webpage will be filled with meeting materials and it will be a repository for information related to the realignment process that will be shared with committee members and the public.
The goals of the redistricting process are:
- to populate the new Porters Neck Elementary School opening for the 2020-21 school year;
- to account for increased building capacity with the replacement of Blair and College Park Elementary Schools;
- to efficiently utilize all available space and plan for future growth within the county; and
- to establish new attendance zones in accordance with the “Guiding Principles” established by the Board of Education.
The Redistricting Committee will provide requested information to the consultant, (Cropper GIS Consulting) that is required for redistricting, assist in the planning and scheduling process, assist in the community outreach process, participate in community and committee meetings, provide input on proposed redistricting options, and make a final recommendation to the full Board of Education.
The Redistricting Committee is expected to make a final recommendation to the School Board in December 2019. New attendance boundaries would be implemented for the 2020-21 School Year.
