Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all K-12 schools to close for two weeks. The New Hanover County Schools will be closed for students beginning Monday, March 16 through at least Friday, March 27. This includes all before and after-school programs and pre-K programs.
Monday is an optional workday for all full and part-time NHCS staff. Essential staff for Monday are all administrators, custodians, maintenance-operations personnel, office staff, and school nurses. Essential staff are to report unless sick.
Schools will be open to the public on Monday, March 16 from 8 am-4 pm for retrieval of essential items such as medications and other essential equipment. The NHCS Administration Building at 6410 Carolina Beach Road will be open to the public on Monday, March 16 from 8 am-4 pm.
Free breakfast and lunch for children 18 years and younger will be available for pick-up at 14 schools beginning on Monday, March 16. All sites are drive-through or walk-up sites only. No space will be provided for eating on site and multiple meals may be picked up by parents and caregivers. Recipients should be prepared to drive up or walk up to the designated area and let staff know how many meals are needed.
Lunch and the following morning’s breakfast will be provided beginning on Monday, March 16 for pick-up from 11 am-1 pm, Monday through Friday at the following schools:

March 17 Interim Board Meeting
An Interim Board Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 17 from 4-7 pm at the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St.
There will be no Call to the Audience during the Interim Board Meeting as is the case with all Interim Board Meetings. Attendance will be strictly limited to no more than 100 people in compliance with Governor Cooper’s Executive Order. The general public will have the option to view remotely via live streaming.
