Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all K-12 schools to close for two weeks. New Hanover County Schools will be closed for students beginning Monday, March 16 through at least Friday, March 27. This includes all before and after-school programs and pre-K programs. NHCS continues to follow guidance outlined by Governor Cooper’s Executive Order 117, the CDC, and the NC Division of Public Health.
NHCS Cancels Best Foot Forward and Teacher Trot
In accordance with federal and state attendance guidelines and the continually changing response to COVID-19, New Hanover County Schools has canceled two annual events for the 2019-2020 school year. Best Foot Forward, previously postponed from March 13, has now been canceled. The 5K and 1 mile race Teacher Trot, scheduled for Saturday, May 2, has also been canceled. The district will work with organizers to issue refunds for all Teacher Trot registrations and sponsorships.
Facilities & Building Access
New Hanover County Schools is following federal and state guidance and limiting in-person meetings and facility use in confined spaces to less than 10 people.
Effective Monday, March 23, all NHCS schools and administrative buildings will only be open to the public between the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the principal or building manager. Individuals needing to conduct business at a NHCS facility are encouraged to call facilities ahead of time to determine if their concerns can be addressed over the phone.
Student instructional packets will continue to be available during this time at all schools.
Meal service will continue to be available for pick up at identified sites from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The distribution of electronic devices for high school learning will begin on Wednesday, March 25. Pick-up information will be available prior to March 25.
Plans for supplemental learning after March 20 are in development.
