New Hanover County Schools Host Public Redistricting Forum at Snipes Academy

Redistricting Public Forum September 2019
New Hanover County Schools hosted a Public Redistricting Forum on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. Cropper GIS Consulting is managing the redistricting process for NHCS and has assisted with helping to provide thorough communication and transparency to our community. At the public forum, parents and community members were able to come out and see the latest proposed maps, get a timeline of completion, and speak with the members of the Board of Education and Redistricting Committee members. Questions and concerns that parents and community members in the district had were answered and discussed at the public forum. On-site the district also had an English as a Second Language (ESL) translator so that communication was available for all in attendance. Cropper GIS has a public survey form online for anyone who was unable to attend the forum.

“This has been the most transparent and open redistricting process that the district has seen. We have had strong turnouts from the public at our committee meetings. This process with Cropper has really allowed the public to have a voice and get their concerns heard.” stated Assistant Superintendent of Operations Eddie Anderson. The event at Snipes was the last public forum of the redistricting process, however, the public still has the option to communicate with the Redistricting Committee through the online survey here New Hanover County Schools Redistricting Survey or by using the  General Feedback Form which can be found at The district welcomes comments, feedback, and constructive criticism from the public. While the majority of comments have been productive and even incorporated by the Redistricting Committee in their work, some recent comments have been inappropriate and bordered on threatening. NHCS does not condone this type of behavior. The district encourages everyone to be a part of the redistricting process and welcomes the voice of our community but we ask that you do so in a constructive, respectful and pragmatic manner.
