New Hanover County Schools Notified of Confirmed COVID-19 Case at Hoggard High School

The family of a NHCS student athlete at Hoggard High School has notified New Hanover County Schools that the student has tested positive for COVID-19. The last date the student attended athletics practice was on Friday, July 24. The student was following all health and safety guidelines required by NCHSAA and NHCS and did not enter Hoggard High School. Any close contacts are being identified by the Public Health Department.
NHCS resumed limited athletic activity for high school student athletes on July 6.  Coaches and athletic trainers are following the guidance provided by the NCHSAA Reopening Sports/Activities: Summer Guidance document when conducting workouts. All sessions are optional for student athletes.  Health care precautions include but are not limited to:
Student athlete education session
Daily temperature checks 
Daily wellness checks
Social distancing beyond the regular requirements
Required use of face coverings by coaches
Required use of face coverings by athletes when not engaged in activity
Increased hand hygiene
Specific entrance and exiting processes of fields and gymnasiums
New Hanover County Schools is continuing to advise consistency in the 3 W's:  Wear a mask, Wait 6 feet away from others, and Wash hands often.  If you are concerned that you may have come into contact with the virus, you should seek the advice of your healthcare provider or NHC Public Health.  The NHC Public Health website and call center (see below) is available for any questions or concerns you may have.
