New Hanover County Schools Seeks Parents to Serve on Family Communication Committee

The Family Communication Committee is seeking applicants to fill two vacancies on the committee. Applicants should have current or past experience as parents of NHCS students.
“The Family Communication Committee develops and implements innovative ways to increase opportunities for parent input and engagement across the district,: says Committee Chair and NHCS Board member Stefanie Adams. “Collaboration and open dialogue is key to assuring that NHCS families know how to access resources and information that support student learning and personal growth.”
The goals of the committee are:
  • to review, and revise if needed, recently established district-wide parent communication policies and procedures;
  • to create and implement accountability measures to assure policies and procedures are followed at the school level;
  • to collaboratively discuss and develop innovative ways to reach out and involve parents; gather feedback; and
  • to create a Parent Communication Calendar of Events to generate interest and participation.
In an effort to generate input from administrators, school staff, central office employees, and parents, the committee consists of a Board of Education representative, the Superintendent, representatives from the NHCS Communications and Outreach, Student Support, and Technology Divisions, a principal, a PTA designee, a teacher from the elementary, middle, and high school levels, and three to five NHCS parents.
Complete the online application or contact the NHCS at (910) 254-4200 for more information. Deadline to apply is July 24th.
