The New Hanover County Board of Education is re-establishing the Parent Communication Committee under a new title, the Family Communication Committee; the group is seeking new members to serve on the committee. Board Member Stefanie Adams will serve as Chair.
“The re-established Parent Communication Committee, now known as the Family Communication Committee, will develop and implement innovative ways to increase opportunities for parent input and engagement across the district. Collaboration and open dialogue is key to assuring that NHCS families know how to access resources and information that support student learning and personal growth.” Ms. Adams stated.
The goals of the committee are:
- to review, and revise if needed, recently established district-wide parent communication policies and procedures;
- to create and implement accountability measures to assure policies and procedures are followed at the school level;
- to collaboratively discuss and develop innovative ways to reach out and involve parents; gather feedback; and
- to create a Parent Communication Calendar of Events to generate interest and participation.
In an effort to generate input from administrators, school staff, central office employees, and parents, the proposed committee will consist of a Board of Education representative, the Superintendent, representatives from the NHCS Public Relations, Student Support, and Technology Divisions, a principal, a PTA designee, a teacher from the elementary, middle, and high school levels, and three to five NHCS parents.
The window for parent applications is now open.
Teachers and principals may apply to participate beginning August 5, 2019.
The first organizational meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, with bi-monthly meetings beginning in September.
