NHCS Updates Virtual Academy Application Process

Due to high interest in the NHCS Virtual Academy, the Virtual Academy application will remain open for new applicants and the application period will not close on August 28, 2020. All students applying to the Virtual Academy after August 14, 2020 will be added to the waitlist. Students on the waitlist will be accepted into the program if seats are available.

Families who have applied and been accepted to the Virtual Academy may elect to start the program as soon as it is available or at the end of the first grading period. If a student has applied, is accepted, and is offered a seat in the Virtual Academy, but declines to enroll upon acceptance, that student remains on the  waitlist but the available seat will be offered to the next student on the waitlist.

As a reminder, the following are instructional options available to families under Plans A, B. and C.

Plan A: Virtual Academy and face-to-face in-school instruction are the options.

Plan B: A full Pre-K-12 school-based Virtual Academy through their home school will be provided for families who selected home learning for their student. Pre-K-12 students in Remote Instruction will attend face-to-face instruction on an alternating three-week schedule.
  • Students will be assigned to groups (1, 2 or 3). Siblings will be in the same groups. Groups will attend school in an ongoing rotation by attending school in person for one week and receiving online instruction for two weeks.
  • The district recognizes there are some students with global delays who, by the nature of their disabling condition, have not demonstrated the capacity to gain meaning from remote learning models. For these students, expanded in-person services may be offered.
  • English Learners with two complete school years in a U.S. school or less will attend daily.
Plan C:  Remote Instruction and Virtual Academy are the options.
