New Hanover County Schools has expanded its school opening website resources for students and families regarding school opening. There are several updates on the NHCS: Ready, Set, Return webpage that families can take advantage of to provide support for online and remote learning. These resources include getting started information and user guides provided in both English and Spanish for Seesaw, Google Classroom, Canvas, Castle Learning, and Edgenuity.
NHCS has also expanded its #ReadySetReturn video library to provide information surrounding transportation, health and safety, instruction, digital learning and communications. Also accessible on this webpage, the district has hosted two Facebook Live sessions so far this month on instruction, health, and special education. This live series has been hosted in partnership with UNCW Latino Alliance and includes English and Spanish sessions.
The district is thoughtfully and deliberately creating new health protocols, new student and family supports, and new instructional strategies to deliver meaningful educational experiences in this unique pandemic environment. To this end, an updated and expanded FAQ is now available for families to easily access the NHCS: Ready, Set, Return page. The applications for the wait list for the Virtual Academy are still being accepted. The application process will remain open until Friday, August 28, 2020.
