Several NHCS Schools Chosen to Participate in Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

Several NHCS schools were recently selected to participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) for the 2020-2021 school year (SY). This program started September 29th and schools will serve two additional fruits or vegetables a day. When school starts October 12th, child nutrition staff will continue to offer this program at curb-side and when students are in the building. The child nutrition managers will coordinate a time to allow these snacks to be passed out during the day. The following schools were selected for this program.

  • Snipes Academy of Arts and Design
  • Sunset Park Elementary
  • Winter Park Model Elementary
  • Wrightsboro Elementary
The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is a federally assisted program providing free fresh fruits and vegetables to children at eligible elementary schools during the school day. The goal of the FFVP is to introduce children to fresh fruits and vegetables, to include new and different varieties, and to increase overall acceptance and consumption of fresh, unprocessed produce among children. The FFVP also encourages healthier school environments by promoting nutrition education.
