Sunset Park Elementary School will celebrate the National Education Association’s American Education Week by inviting current members of the New Hanover County Board of Education, in addition to the newly-elected Board members, to serve as Educators for a Day on Thursday, November 15, 2018, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Sunset Park Elementary is located at 613 Alabama Avenue, Wilmington, NC. As guest educators, the elected officials will spend a portion of the day experiencing school activities under the guidance of a cooperating school employee.
“The event presents an excellent opportunity for our elected officials to see what NHCS students and schools are all about. Education has many challenges, and it is important for the community leaders to understand those challenges in order to plan effectively for meeting the future needs of our students,” Principal Diego Lehocky said.
Sunset Park’s activities are in line with the national effort of NEA, the nation’s largest professional employee organization, representing more than 3 million elementary and secondary teachers, higher education faculty, education support professionals, school administrators, retired educators, and students preparing to become teachers. The National Education Association’s American Education Week takes place November 12–16. For more information, visit their website at http://www.nea.org/grants/19823.htm.
