Wilmington, NC: New Hanover County Schools and the Wilmington Downtown Rotary Club are pleased to announce Melissa Daria, Kindergarten teacher at Forest Hills Global Elementary, as the 2022 Rookie of the year.
Throughout the past six years, the partnership between Wilmington Downtown Rotary Club and New Hanover County Schools has highlighted Beginning Teachers' hard work and dedication across the district. The Rookie of the Year Program provides beginning teachers an opportunity to be recognized and valued by the community and, as a result, encourages them to continue in the field of education.
“With continued support and sense of belonging, Beginning Teachers will flourish, but most importantly, so will our students. We want the absolute best for our students, families, and community. That success starts with taking care of and improving the retention of Beginning Teachers who serve the next generations to come. Our future is the little smiles that are hiding behind masks in our classrooms”, said Daria.
The New Hanover County Schools Beginning Teacher Support Program seeks to inspire and promote leadership among our beginning teachers. The partnership between NHCS and The Wilmington Downtown Rotary with Rookie of the Year provides additional opportunities for teachers to connect with other beginning teachers and share support and strategies.
