New Hanover County Board of Education Announces Decision to Begin Contract Negotiations with Dr. Christopher Barnes for Superintendent Role
WILMINGTON, N.C. – The New Hanover County Board of Education has taken a significant step toward solidifying its leadership by unanimously voting to enter contract negotiations with Interim Superintendent Dr. Christopher Barnes, with the goal of appointing him as the district’s full-time Superintendent.
This decision reflects the board’s confidence in Dr. Barnes’ leadership, vision, and commitment to the success of New Hanover County Schools. Since assuming the interim role, Dr. Barnes has demonstrated dedication to fostering academic excellence, supporting educators, and building strong connections with the community.
“We believe Dr. Barnes has shown the leadership qualities and strategic vision necessary to guide our district forward,” said Melissa Mason, Chair of the New Hanover County Board of Education. “His work as Interim Superintendent has been exceptional, and we are excited about the possibilities for the future under his continued leadership.”
