The Office of equity, diversity, and inclusion is responsible for establishing the framework that will provide the guiding light for all teachers, staff, and administrators engaging in the educational and social-emotional work needed to improve student outcomes, promote an inclusive climate & culture and build learning experiences that reach ALL New Hanover County School students and staff.
New Hanover County Schools defines the work of equity, diversity, and inclusion as the following:
Equity: The pursuit of creating an educational culture that proactively centers all students and staff in instructional content, professional development, communications, and policy/procedures. NHCS seeks to provide all students with learning environments that promote high-quality education for all students.
Diversity: The representation of all varied identities and differences (race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, origin, visible/invisible disabilities, learning styles, linguistics, etc.), collectively and as individuals.
Inclusion: Establishing a culture of belonging by actively inviting the contribution and participation of all educational stakeholders (Students, Families, Educators/Staff, Administrative Leadership). All students and staff can be equally valued, treated with respect, and provided with fair learning and development opportunities.
