While it may appear early for registration, this timeline allows NHCS to better prepare for staffing needs and hiring certified teachers at each school, efficiently plan for the next school year, complete school choice lottery options, and ensures the prompt processing of your student's enrollment.

Parents may begin submitting applications in Scribbles:
For students entering K and new to NHCS grades 1-5 , the parent/guardian must submit a new enrollment application to their zoned school. The application must be complete including requested documentation (certified birth certificate, proof of domicile, parent/guardian photo ID if available, and custody documentation if applicable.) Lottery applications will be denied if these requirements are not first met.

NCGS 115C-368 requires that all students be given notice of their school assignment based on their current address. These notices will be mailed or sent home and the assignments will reflect the 2024-2025 school.

Notification for initial selection for Kindergarten: Gregory, Codington, Eaton, Freeman, and Snipes
|
No later than April 30, 2024
|
Parents will receive an email from Scribbles with notification of the lottery results for Gregory, year-round and restart schools by April 30, 2024. *Applications received after April 12, 2024 will not be included in the initial notification process and will automatically be added to the waitlist for consideration if seats remain available.

Notification for Open Choice selection. Open Choice: a school outside a student's assigned school area for which the student may apply for a lottery assignment if there is space available at the school within the student's grade level. Once selected, the student may attend through the last grade level offered at the school.

Parents will receive an email from Scribbles with notification of the open choice decisions. Email for students who have been denied the open choice request will reference that a certified/registered letter will be mailed (REQUIRED BY G.S.
115C-369), and requires a signature for delivery.

Hardship transfer requests for the 2024-2025 school year will not be reviewed until after all year-round, open choice , and restart lottery is processed and appeal hearings have been completed.
