Safety check at MGMS
As communities in the United States consider how to safely re-open K-12 school buildings and in-person services, NHCS is following federal, state and local public health guidance for mitigation strategies that can be used to help protect students and staff and to slow the spread of COVID-19.  Protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of students, teachers, staff, their families, and our community is the district's top priority.  We are committed to promoting behaviors that reduce COVID-19’s spread; maintaining healthy environments; maintaining healthy operations; and preparing for when someone gets sick.

NHCS schools are following the 14 day quarantine period for COVID exposures and quarantines at the direction of New Hanover County Public Health and the NC Dept. of Health and Human Services toolkit. The 14-day quarantine period is not determined by individual schools.

New Hanover County Schools is reviewing the revised pandemic school opening and operations guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control on Feb. 12, 2021.

The CDC provides recommendations for consideration and possible implementation at the state level. The NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is working closely with the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) in providing NC school districts with protocols for safe operations. Protocol updates will be published in the StrongSchoolsNC Public HealthToolkit K-12. NHCS will continue to follow state requirements and recommendations outlined in the StrongSchoolsNC Toolkit in all schools and facilities and will implement any updates as they become available.
