Curriculum
Students interested in marine science can transfer to Eugene Ashley High School as a freshman and take part in science classes that highlight their special interest. Sophomores and juniors can apply to the Marine Science Academy where they will complete college-level oceanography and marine biology coursework. Once enrolled, students participate in internships and marine technology opportunities at UNCW and Cape Fear Community College.
Students in the Marine Science Cohort (9th and 10th) grades will be grouped in their science class. This allows content to be taught that highlights marine science as well as providing these students with marine science enrichment. Students in the Academy will take OCN150 Intro to Oceanography and BIO170 Biology of the Sea. In addition to course work students will participate in fieldwork, labs and internships with UNCW. All students in the program will need to complete Quarterly Events and participate in a Science Club. A potential pathway for students is provided below.
