The application and dates to apply are established by NHCS. Students in grades 8 and 9 can apply to the Pre-STEM program when the application window opens. Rising 11th grade students can apply to the STEM Academy following the same application process established by NHCS.
Pre-STEM is a two year program that helps students complete the course prerequisites required for upper level courses offered in the STEM Academy. Students also learn science and engineering practice skills essential to upper level courses.
The STEM Academy is a two-year program that begins in grade 11. Students choose a pathway of interest and take rigorous courses for that specific pathway: Engineering or Biochemical Science. Students in the engineering pathway finish the program with an engineering research project that is coordinated, presented and evaluated by engineers.
Students need to complete the course prerequisites and maintain a GPA of 3.5. Students will interact with their counselors and the STEM coordinator to ensure they remain on track and successfully complete the program.
